6th grade Ramayana

Over the next month,  the 6th grade will  work in small groups to write, direct, rehearse and eventually perform in their own version of The Ramayana.  I am excited to report that Annie Penta is joining us periodically throughout May and June.  Annie is an expert on Indian culture and folklore, and she specifically teaches the ancient story of The Ramayana.  Students will also learn traditional songs and dances, and conduct art projects.  Last Friday, we created our own version of an athapoovidal, an art project created entirely from pieces of nature.

8th Grade Pre-Civil War Compromises

Representatives of the North and the South link pinkies and agree to compromise.  How close were their negotiations to the actual discussions that lead to the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850?   Responses may vary!

5/6th grade PE Pictures

We have been busy this week learning gymnastics and balancing routines.  Students have been challenged to work in partners and groups to create balancing stunts. It is amazing to see such flexibility, agility, strength and teamwork!

Vista Track and Field

We have an amazing track team this year with 16 incredibly talented athletes, some even coming in 1st place!   At our meets this season, our team challenged the other schools in the running events and field events.  We ran hurdles, sprints, relays, and participated in all of the field events including shot put, discus, high jump and long jump.  We are looking forward to our championship meet this Thursday where we will come home with many ribbons!  Go Bobcats!

8th grade North and South Debate

This week eighth graders participated in a lively pre-civil war debate.  Students researched the economy, society, geography, and transportation of either the North or South to inform their presentations.  Then, in pairs they presented their arguments to the opposing side, who took notes for a rebuttal.  Strong arguments were presented by students representing both the North and the South, but particularly by Marco, Caitlin, Sarah, Colin, and T.J.  There are most certainly some future lawyers in this class!
